In a bid to propel Anambra State into a tech-savvy future, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has launched the pilot⁵ phase of the Freezer Public Wi-Fi Initiative in Awka. The initiative, named Solution Wi-Fi, is a collaborative effort between the Anambra State ICT Agency and Pineheight Systems Limited (PHSWEB).
This initiative, a tangible step towards fulfilling promises outlined in the People’s Manifesto, underscores Governor Soludo’s commitment to ushering the state into the digital age. As part of his visionary manifesto, Governor Soludo pledged to provide affordable and eventually free Wi-Fi hotspots in public areas and enhance broadband access in schools and libraries.
According to Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, MD/CEO of the Anambra State ICT Agency, the Solution Wi-Fi pilot phase is aligned with Governor Soludo’s agenda of “Everything Technology, Technology Everywhere.” Operational in strategic locations like Aroma Junction, Book Foundation, and UNIZIK Back gate in Awka, users can enjoy one hour of free internet access every 24 hours during this phase.
Agbata highlighted the significance of these locations for students and businesses, emphasizing the potential benefits for educational activities and online presence enhancement. Access to high-speed internet can also empower the youth to create revenue-generating content.
To access the free Solution Wi-Fi, individuals and businesses in the designated areas can activate their Wi-Fi, select “Solution Wi-Fi,” and follow the SMS authentication prompt to create a username (phone number). Upon receiving an auto-generated code via SMS, users can enjoy one hour of fast internet access per day within a range of up to 200 meters.
This groundbreaking initiative reinforces Anambra State’s commitment to technological advancement, recognized at the National Council on Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy (NCCIDE) meeting in Kano. Anambra State received prestigious awards, including Overall Best State in Digital Technology Development and First Position for Best State in Digital Infrastructure Technology Development.
The State ICT Agency reaffirmed its commitment to a future marked by technological advancement, innovation, and unprecedented progress.
