Anambra State police has arrested one suspect in the alleged murder of Mr Azubuike Ekwegbalu, aged 43 years of Ogbunike in Oyi L.G.A of Anambra state.
Following the report which was made at about 1:30am on Sunday, Police detectives attached to B division , Awka led by the DPO, CSP Emma Ogbuanya , visited the deceased’s residence at Commissioners quarters, Awka.
The victim who was found in the pool of his blood was rushed to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka for medical attention where he was certified dead on arrival by the medical director. His corpse was deposited at the mortuary for an autopsy.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, , SP Haruna Mohammed, careful observation on the deceased body revealed stab wounds while a blood stained kitchen knife was also recovered as Exhibit at the scene.
Consequently, one suspect, who allegedly was in the premises has been arrested.
The PPRO said the case is under investigation so as to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, Mr Ekwegbalu has been described as a thorough, quiet, unassuming , energetic and dedicated security official whose forte was intelligence gathering . He had devoted his energy and professional intelligence to monitoring cults in various parts of the state and the result has been outstanding.
This was made known in a statement released to the Media by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, C.Don Adinuba.
He bemoaned the death of Mr Ekwegbalu, saying it is a serious setback to the fight against the cult menace and crime generally in the state.
He said that the Governor has commiserated with the family of the deceased and that the Anambra State Government is working with the security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of the crime.
Governor Willie, also used the opportunity to assure Ndi Anambra that his administration will do all within his power to make Anambra state remain the safest and most peaceful state in Nigeria.
