Police in Anambra Say Viral Picture of Rescued Children, Not Recent

The Anambra State Police Command has informed that the picture of rescued children, circulating on social media and purported to have occured recently in the State, is not a recent operational breakthrough of the Command.

The twelve victims, as shown in the picture, were rescued sometimes in September 2020, in the house of one Nkechi Odilinye in Awka, who has since been charged to Court; in a case of child stealing/missing persons.

Police report signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, clarified that one of the children, as relayed in the picture, has since reunited with the family, after proper identification, while eleven others are in the protective custody and care of Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development.

The Command appreciated members of the public, especially those who may have shared the said picture to further facilitate the identification and possible reunion of the children with their families, and enjoined parents and guardians to always take good care of their children/wards to avoid falling into wrong hands.
