Police in Anambra State has arrested a 41-year-old man, one Mr. Ogbonna Nwankwo, for attempting to kill a 29-year-old woman, and cut off her breast allegedly for ritual purposes.
Police in a statement , said the incident took place at a motel in Ihite town, Orumba South Local Government Area of the state.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Haruna Mohammed, who disclosed this in a statement, informed that the incident happened last Wednesday, 2nd September 2020, at about 8 am, adding that the duo reside in the same Ihite town.
According to the PPRO, the suspect allegedly attempted to murder the lady inside the motel room by stabbing her on the stomach with a knife.
The police report said the man then tried to cut off her right side breast thinking she was dead when the lady shouted and attracted the attention of the motel manager. The man was then apprehended.
Haruna said the scene was visited by police operatives attached to Umunze division and the victim rushed to specialist hospital Nnewi for treatment.
He further revealed that the suspect was seriously manhandled by an angry mob and beaten to stupor, before he was arrested by the police and taken to a hospital for treatment under police guard.
Meanwhile, a blood-stained knife was recovered at the scene as an exhibit and the State Commissioner of Police, Mr John Abang, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Also in a related development , On September 2nd, at about 10:10pm, there was a report of alleged murder of one Eleyi Azubuike ‘m’ aged 29 years of Ochiagha street,Nkpor in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State by his girlfriend one Oyinye Chime ‘f’ aged 25 years of same Ochiagha street, Nkpor Inside his room. .
Following the report, Police detectives attached to Ogidi Division led by the DPO CSP Ekuri Remigius visited the scene and rushed victim who was found in a pool of his blood to Iyi Enu Mission hospital Ogidi for medical attention where he was certified dead on arrival by the medical doctor duty. The Corpse was deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Meanwhile, a careful observation on the deceased body revealed stab wound on his chess while a blood stained Kitchen knife was also recovered as Exhibit at the scene.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased allegedly impregnated the suspect and wanted an abortion which she declined and demanded for some money for her upkeep which the deceased also refused to oblige, that eventually led to a scuffle which resulted to the deceased being stabbed to dead.
