Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of three members of the same family, including a two-year-old girl, in Ukpor, Nnewi South LGA.
Bodies of the victims were reportedly exhumed from a shallow grave
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu arrested Emmanuel Nnabueze Nnakezie, 33, and Clement Nnaekezie, 69, on the afternoon of May 3, 2026, following an investigation triggered by credible information about the sudden disappearance of the victims.
The two suspects were apprehended in different locations, as one was picked up in Oba and the other arrested in Ukpor.
During interrogation, both men confessed to the crime and led officers to the site where the victims were buried.
According to police report, the dead persons were identified as Robert Nnakezie, a 67-year-old man; Ikechukwu Obi, a 14-year-old boy; and Ukamaka Efione, a two-year-old girl who was reportedly visiting the family during the school holidays.
The remains of all three victims have been exhumed and deposited in a morgue for autopsy.
Preliminary investigations suggest the killings may have been triggered by a dispute over the ownership of a bitter kola tree and other inherited parcels of land within the family.
Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the act in strong terms, describing it as barbaric and unacceptable.
He assured that the command remained fully committed to ensuring that justice is served and that those responsible face the full weight of the law.
