Police Operatives in Anambra State burst motorcycle snatching syndicate at Nri, Anaocha Council Area, Arrest four suspects, recovers some stolen items and the knife used in removing part of the victim’s right ear.

Anambra State Police Command said yesterday, 1st June, 2020, at about 1:30 pm, following a distress call, Police operatives attached to Neni Division in collaboration with vigilante group, arrested four Robbery suspects who specialized in snatching motorcycles along Nri-Neni axis.

The suspects were

Francis EzeIbekwe, aged 22 years from Ikenga village, Adazi Ani, Ndubuisi Kaliaozor aged 20 years, of Agbadama village Nri, Ugoji Chibuzor, aged 19 years of Uruofolo village Nri and,

Elochukwu Anyaoke, aged 29 years from umuowelle village.

A release issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, said the suspects were arrested in their hideout inside the bush at Nri, by Neni in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State after allegedly robbing one Nnamdi Ebegbe of his motorcycle top star, phone, and unspecified amount of money after chopping of part of his right ear with a knife.

He said exhibits recovered from the suspects include one Cutlass, the snatched  motorcycle and a phone belonging to the victim, and added that the case is under investigation after which suspects would be brought to justice.

Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, CP John Abang, urged motorcycle/Keke riders in the State to be wary of such syndicates in order not to fall victims.

Also

Reports say armed robbers numbering about 10 at the weekend, invaded the residence of the Bishop of Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Abakaliki, Right. Reverend Lawson Elom, carting  away an undisclosed amount of money and other valuables worth millions of Naira.

A relative of the Bishop and the Presbyter of Cathedral Church, Very Reverend Uche Chukwuemeka,  who confirmed the robbery attack to newsmen said they invaded the house at about 1:am in the morning.

Very Reverend Chukwuemeka said that  the robbers used axe and other dangerous weapons to break the  fence, burgled one of the windows and gained access into the house, while his wife and children were deep asleep as the Bishop was not at home, saying only God knew what would have happened if they had met him.

The Cleric said that the robbers carried out the operation between 1:00 am on Friday night till at about 4:00 am without any security challenge, noting that the Bishops’ residence located along Onwe Road, is about 5 polls away from the Ebonyi State Police Headquarters.

He said the robbers used axe to  break through the window, came inside and surrounded the family members with gun and also  collected their phones and ATM cards.

The Reverend also revealed that the robbers forced them to reveal their ATM pin Numbers which they did, then the robbers rushed to the Bank and withdrew all the money in their accounts.

It was further gathered that the robbers also broke into their kitchen and store and catered away gallons of oil, bags of Beans, Garri and other food items.

Other property also catered away by the robbers include; 6 plasma TV,  and other electronic equipment, the Bishop’s bag containing important documents, etc.

It was gathered that the robbers after their operation called a taxi who came and parked the stolen property.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Loveth Odah, said that the office was yet to be briefed on the matter. 

Mean while

A clergyman, Reverend Emmanuel Saba Bileya, and his wife, Julianna, have been killed by yet to be identified gunmen in Mararraba community in Donga local government area of Taraba state.

The spokesperson of the State Police Command, ASP David Misal, who confirmed this to reporters, said the pastor, who is the Senior Pastor at Reform Church and his wife, were working  on their farm when the gunmen stormed the place and opened fire on them, killing them instantly.

Misal said the matter is currently being investigated.

Pastor Saba is said to have recently graduated from a University in the US. The deceased couple left behind eight children.
