President Buhari To Discuss Growing Security Threats in Sahel with French President Macron

President Muhammadu Buhari is currently in Paris, France on a four-day official visit to attend African Finance Summit. The President travelled yesterday for the Summit which will be focused on reviewing African economy, following shocks from Coronavirus pandemic, and getting relief, especially from increased debt burden on countries.

According to report, the Summit, hosted by President Emmanuel Macron, will draw major stakeholders in the global finance institutions and some Heads of Government, who will, together discuss external funding and debt treatment for Africa, and private sector reforms.

According to the statement by Garba Shehu, President Buhari will also meet with the French President to discuss growing security threats in Sahel and Lake Chad region, political relations, economic ties, climate change and partnership in buoying the health sector, particularly in checking spread of Covid-19, with more research and vaccines.

President Buhari, will also , before returning to Nigeria, receive some key players in the oil and gas sector, engineering and telecommunications, European Council and European Union Representative for Foreign and Security Policy and Commission, and members of the Nigerian community.

The President was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, and Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire.

Also with him are: National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Babagana Mohammed Monguno (rtd) and Director General of National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb. Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.
