President General Of Umuoji Vows To Deal With Land Grabbers

Irked by the illegal activities of land grabbers in Umuoji, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, the President General of the community, Chief Silas Onyima over the weekend vowed to deal with the land grabbers causing tension in the community

Onyima who was reacting to a peaceful protest carried out by the people of Aguma village against the illegal activities of the land grabbers who were said to have encroached on about 150 plots of their lands located at Okofia village all in Umuoji and had allegedly sold them.

The PG assured the protesting community members of his willingness to fight for their lands to be Recovered and returned back to them as according to him, standing up for his people was his primary responsibility.

Chief Silas also pledged to visit the Okofia land within seven days with the view to seeing the alleged portions of land that was grabbed as claimed by the Aguma people.
Speaking on unscrupulous community members who were allegedly protecting the the interest of the land grabbers, Chief Onyima warned that they should repent or be ready to face the wrath of the law.

The People of Aguma village who spoke through their chairman, Hon. Obinna Okafor narrated how the land grabbers sold about 150 plots of lands and are planning to sell more which is why they resorted to protesting in other to attract immediate action against the land grabbers and their criminal activities.

Also speaking, a community leader, Chief Ifeanyi Efobi, regretted that their land at Okofia was encroached upon and sold without their consent.
He recalled that when they went to inspect and know the extent of the grabbing they were chased out and guns shot at them which resulted in some of them sustaining various degrees of bullet wound.

In his contribution, the Chairman of the youth wing, Mr. Chukwuemeka Mekaowulu, said that with what the land grabbers are doing, the they may not have a place to build their houses if they are not
stopped as that is the only ancestral land the village own.

The protesting Aguma village members commended the President General of Umuoji for his pledge to Wade into the matter and resolve to see Justice served to the already intimidated people of the village.
