President Bola Tinubu has made significant leadership changes at federal universities, effective immediately.
At Yakubu Gowon University, formerly UNIABUJA, the governing council has been dissolved, and Vice-Chancellor Professor Aisha Maikudi relieved of her duties. Professor Patricia Manko takes over as Acting VC for six months but is ineligible for a permanent appointment.
In other appointments, Senator Lanre Tejuoso is now Pro-Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University, while Senator Joy Emordi moves to the University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
At the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor Polycarp Chigbu has been removed as Acting VC, with Professor Oguejiofu Ujam stepping in for six months. Olubunmi Ojo has been appointed Pro-Chancellor of UNN.
The presidency says these changes aim to improve governance and academic excellence in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
