President Bola Tinubu has announced that Nigeria is set to lead Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation in Africa through a partnership with Google.
Following a meeting with Google and Alphabet CEO, Sundar Pichai, in France, Tinubu shared on his official X handle on Wednesday, that discussions focused on AI research, cloud infrastructure, workforce development, and positioning Nigeria as a global tech hub.
He highlighted Nigeria’s existing AI prospects, including Awarri Technologies, with whom the government is collaborating to develop AI software for the local market.
The initiative aligns with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for economic diversification through digital innovation. The Federal Ministry of Communications will oversee the project, with NITDA leading implementation efforts.
