President Bola Tinubu will today, May 31, officially commission 11 major road and bridge projects nationwide, including the first completed 30-kilometre stretch of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
The inauguration, announced by the Federal Ministry of Works, will take place physically at Kilometre 8 near Jakande Estate in Lagos, and virtually across other locations.
The Lagos-Calabar highway, a key component of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope legacy agenda, spans 700 kilometres across nine coastal states. It promises to revolutionize transportation, boost tourism, and enhance economic integration in Nigeria’s southern corridor.
Other completed projects set for commissioning include parts of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, East-West Road in Rivers, Alesi-Ugep Road in Cross River, Ikorodu-Shagamu Road, and bridges in Enugu and Ebonyi States.
President Tinubu will also flag off new projects, including the Ibadan–Ife–Ilesha–Akure–Benin Highway and the Nembe–Brass Road in Bayelsa. Minister of Works David Umahi hailed the coastal road as a “flagship of excellence” in African infrastructure, inviting dignitaries and stakeholders to witness what he called a transformational milestone.
