According to the presidential task force on Covid-19, the pandemic Covid-19 is certainly the greatest invisible public health emergency that has threatened humanity in modern history.
With over 8 million confirmed cases and over 400,000 deaths in 213 countries , the fatalities are forceful reminders of the task before everyone.
While recalling the extent to which the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on Covid-19 has done by the Secretary to the government of the federation and chairman of the PTF at the national briefing yesterday, in what was termed a Mid-term review, Boss Mustapha said that there have been some modest achievements, challenges and lessons learned over the past three months of working as a team.
He applauded President Muhammadu Buhari’s support to the PTF and acknowledged other Committees set up to address the impact of the Covid-19 and the Nigerian Governors forum.
He pointed out some of the challenges facing the National response to Covid-19 to include inadequate infrastructure, manpower shortage, global shortage of essential items( test kit, PPE), strain on the economy which has compelled the need to balance between lives and livelihoods.
He also decried , as the greatest challenges, human resistance to change, Stigmatization, mental health, skepticism, culture, religious beliefs, rising incidents of domestic violence among others.
While also thanking the Frontline health Workers ,security agencies and other agencies working to overcome the pandemic, he pointed out that the journey ahead is more important than the past three months .
He tasked all to take personal responsibility , create awareness and sensitization, stop stigmatization of survivors and encourage people that have contracted the illness.
He said that with the combined efforts of everyone, people can be tested, the virus detected, sick people isolated and treated.
