The 2020 Edition of Prince Ezeimo Essay Competition, organised for students Nimo Secondary schools, has ended with Emmanuel Afuba of Comprehensive Secondary School, Nimo, emerging first position.
He went home with a brand new laptop computer and cash prize.
The theme for this year’s essay competition is, “Covid-19 And The Dearth of Nigerian economy: The Way Forward”.
In his opening remarks, the organiser of the Competition, Prince Tony Ezeimo, popularly known as Ikenga Nimo, described 2020 edition of the Essay Competition and Presentation as being repackaged to inspire students of Nimo and other neighbouring communities in Njikoka to excellence.
He added that with coperation of every member and stakeholder in community, the competition could be doubled or tripled yearly.
Prince Ezeimo expressed gratitude to the sponsor of the 2020 Edition of the Competition, a frontline President General Aspirant, Agbalanze Ekenenna Okafor, Ozo mba Eze ndi Igbo for the humanitarian commitment he has been demonstrating to the community, as exemplified by his scholarship in educational sector and human capital development to the youths.
He also commmended the state lawmaker representing Nnewi North, for his support and presence at the event which, according to him, has helped to inspire the students and prayed God to bless him even as he avails his constituent what he described as people oriented – quality representation.
Contributing, the Chairman on the occasion, Honourable Nonso Smart Okafor, representing Nnewi North in the state house of Assembly, said he attended the competition to inspire the young ones, describing the Convener of the program, Prince Ezeimo as a man who believes that quality educational foundation should be given to each child to be able to succeed in this Internet driven – twenty first century.
Honourable Smart also noted that one of the challenges the younger generations are facing concerning spoken English were pronounciation hiccups which, he noted, is caused by environmental factor, but can be surmounted with committed personal coaching, and urged the students particularly those from vulnerable families not to be intimidated as a result of their family background.
While presenting the prize to winner, Master Afuba Emmanuel, Honourable Smart also congratulated other four runners-up, saying they also fought a good fight.
In a vote of thanks, Chief Vincent Umuegbulam thanked the sponsor, Agbalanze Ekenenna Okafor, for his commitment to the younger generation, as well as the judges for their fair judgement, and prayed God to grant all journey mercies back to their various destinations.
Dignitaries who graced the occasion include the traditional ruler of Nimo, Igwe Maxi Ike Oliobi, represented by Barrister Vincent Arubalu, Honourable Chigbo Anadebe, a Special Adviser to the Governor and other Community leaders, Government officials , including the lawmaker representing Nnewi North in the State House of Assembly, Honourable Nonso Smart Okafor.
Other highpoints of the competition, were Match Past, Presentation by Saint Michael Model School, Nimo, Gift presentation to other runners-up; Ezedinugwu Chioma of St. Joseph Girls Secondary school , Diji Amara Frances of Community Secondary School Nimo, Oforkansi Kelvin and Oliobi Chijoke both from St. Micheal Comprehensive Secondary School Nimo, group photograph and refreshment .
