Real Madrid extended their perfect start to the La Liga season with a convincing 4-1 win over Levante at the Ciutat de Valencia Stadium on Tuesday night. Kylian Mbappé was the star of the evening, scoring twice to take his tally to seven goals in six league games this season.
The match began with Levante showing early signs of resistance, as Ivan Romero and Adrián de la Fuente tested Madrid’s backline in the opening minutes. However, it was Vinícius Júnior who broke the deadlock after 28 minutes, curling a superb effort with the outside of his boot into the far corner following good work by Fede Valverde. The Brazilian, who had expressed frustration after being substituted against Espanyol over the weekend, responded with a lively performance that quickly silenced any doubts about his form.
Real Madrid doubled their advantage before halftime when Vinícius combined with 17-year-old Franco Mastantuono, who rifled a powerful strike into the top corner to record his first goal of the campaign. The visitors continued to dominate, with Levante goalkeeper Mathew Ryan making several crucial saves to prevent the scoreline from becoming even more lopsided before the break.
Levante pulled one back shortly after the restart, as in-form striker Karl Etta Eyong scored his fourth goal of the season with a close-range header. The goal gave the home crowd brief hope, but Madrid’s response was swift and decisive.
Mbappé, who had been lively throughout, won a penalty after being brought down clumsily in the box by Unai Elgezabal. The Frenchman stepped up and calmly converted with a cheeky panenka to make it 3-1. Moments later, the former Paris Saint-Germain star latched onto a pass from Arda Güler, rounded Ryan, and tapped in his second of the evening to seal the win.
The result means Madrid have now won all six of their league fixtures this season, scoring 18 goals and conceding just three. Manager Xabi Alonso, in his first full season in charge, has guided Los Blancos to the top of the table, five points clear of defending champions Barcelona, who face Real Oviedo on Thursday.
For Mbappé, the performance continues his resurgence after a mixed start to life at the Santiago Bernabéu last season. He has now scored nine goals in seven games across all competitions, cementing his place as the focal point of Madrid’s attack.
