The House of Representatives has called for an urgent and comprehensive audit of all airport personnel and contractors engaged in the last year.
This decision was raised as a matter of urgent national importance by Honourable Jesse Onuakalusi at a sitting on Tuesday.
The Reps members also raised an alarm over safety at airports across the country, due to alleged employment of incompetent personnel. They are asking the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, to carry out the audit and appear before the aviation committee of the house within seven days.
This development comes after the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority reported local airline operator, Air Peace to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), over alleged non-compliance with some safety regulations in the UK. The NCAA has communicated the complaints to Air Peace and investigation is ongoing.
Air Peace has responded, confirming that the UK CAA wrote to them after a ramp inspection on April 7, 2024, requesting clarification on their use of the Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) and some other concerns. The airline said they provided the necessary information and the matter was resolved without any issues.
The House of Representatives is concerned about the safety of airports and is taking action by calling for an urgent audit of airport personnel and contractors. The Minister of Aviation has been summoned to appear before the aviation committee to address these issues.
