The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed online reports claiming that armed robbers attacked a popular bank in Port Harcourt.
Police spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement on Wednesday, said the report was false and urged residents to disregard it.
“The command categorically states that no such incident occurred anywhere in Port Harcourt or across Rivers State,” Iringe-Koko declared.
She explained that the misleading report, which claimed robbers stormed a bank on September 23 and warned people to avoid parts of the city, was intended to create panic and fear among residents.
“We urge the public to disregard the report entirely and desist from sharing unverified information,” she said, stressing that deliberate spreaders of falsehood would face prosecution.
Iringe-Koko assured residents that police operatives are on constant patrols and remain on high alert to respond swiftly to any security threat.
“There is no cause for alarm. The command remains committed to safeguarding residents and visitors in the state,” she added.
She also advised members of the public to verify information from official sources before sharing to avoid fueling unnecessary panic.
