The Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) Programme, together with the Anambra state government has briefed the media, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and relevant stakeholders on the evaluation of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), through the ethics and compliance scorecard.
At a roundtable workshop which held on the 9th and 10th of December 2021 in Awka, stakeholders and government representatives reviewed and made an adaptation of the scorecard.
In her opening remarks, the state coordinator of ROLAC, Josephine Ona noted that the aim of the ethics and compliance scorecard was to evaluate ethics, integrity, statutes and policies of MDAs based on three key indicators – Management culture and structure, financial management systems and administrative systems. She also pointed out the importance of CSOs in checkmating corruption.
Speaking on the Anambra Anti Corruption Strategy, (ANSACS), approved by the State Executive Council and publicly launched in February 2020, Dr Ada Chidi-Igbokwe, Rolac’s Lead Consultant informed that the Anti-Corruption Strategy was aimed at establishing an Anti-Corruption Agency in the state and create a results-based system to stop corruption.
Key components of the event were the mapping out of the of the Anambra State Anti-Corruption and ethics compliance tools, deliberations on key indicators, adaptation of the ethics and compliance scorecards, and discussions on the way forward between facilitators, syndicate groups and participants.
Present at the event were, the attorney general of the state, Prof Onyukwu of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, representatives of RoLAC, CSOs, including the press, amongst others.
The RoLAC Programme is an European Union funded project working to strengthen the application of law and curb corruption, with operations aimed at reforming the criminal justice system, ensuring women, children and people with disabilities have access to justice, improving performance of anti-corruption agencies and enhancing the voice of Nigerians in curbing corruption.
