Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria(RTEAN), Anambra State Chapter on Thursday, held a forum for stakeholders in the Transport sector and rolled out plans that will eliminate touting and multiple ticketing in the state.
In his address at the event, which held at the Association’s Headquarters in Awka,
The Anambra Executive Chairman, Comrade Nwabueze Joseph Chinedu, noted the main aim of RTEAN was to, ensure total eradication of touting and hooliganism, promote and advocate for peace among members and improve their welfare; stop multiple ticketing, and ensure improved revenue for the host state.
According to him, in order to curb irregularities and extortion, RTEAN will unveil a single ticket system which will ensure that drivers buy only one ticket for a day and can apply any route in the state.
Speaking further, he charged the chapel leaders and other arms of the union to continue registering members into the association whilst urging all road transport employers in the state to participate in the upcoming Anambra 2021 Governorship election so as to ensure that the Union’s man emerges victorious at the elections.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the state, Chief Ifeanyi Okechukwu expressed happiness that RTEAN was very active in the state despite challenges faced.
He thanked Governor Willie Obiano for allowing the right people operate in the state, noting that people have been printing and selling all kinds of tickets which is wrong, and RTEAN will now ensure regulation.
On his part, Engr. Daniel Eze, representative of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) in the state, also thanked Governor Obiano for ensuring that the department moved from manual to computerized registration and inspection of vehicles.
He assured of the readiness of the Department to partner with RTEAN in ensuring a safer and freer Anambra roads, which according to him will improve the revenue base of the state and promote road worthiness.
In their separate remarks, Mrs. Chinenye Uchendu, Corps Deputy Route Commander who represented the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi and Okeke Obinna, Director of Training and Innovation (ATMA) informed that they were happy to have attended the program.
