Russia has all it needs to carry out a minor or complete invasion and occupation of all or parts of Ukraine.
This was the view shared by Norway’s head of military intelligence, vice admiral Nils Andreas Stensones at the presentation of the Norwegian intelligence services’ annual threat assessment report on Friday.
According to him, Russia has more than 150,000 combat troops at the Ukraine border, along with the country’s most advanced weapons and necessary logistics, and it was up to President Putin to choose if he wants to proceed or not.
Western nations believe Russia is preparing an invasion of Ukraine, and Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Jens Stoltenberg on Friday warned of the real risk for a new armed conflict in Europe, while US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said a Russian invasion could come any time.
While Moscow, has thus far denied imminent invasion, Ukraine has maintained it is ready and able to defend it territory – receiving support from the US and its allies.
