A man in his early sixties from Mbaukwu, Anambra state, who was accused of raping a 9 year old girl in January has been charged to court following the intervention of an NGO – Save and Secure the Child Initiative (The Campaign against Child Abuse in Nigeria).
The 9 year old victim had alleged that the man tied her mouth and forcefully had his way with her upon interrogation by her Mother, who noticed her wobby movement after the encounter.

On conclusion of investigations, the man was charged by the state Magistrate Court, Awka, which ordered he be remanded in prison, pending bail application by his lawyers. The Case was adjourned to 10th of May, 2022.
For the past two years, Save and secure the child initiative has been on the advocacy of raising a voice for the vulnerable children – effecting arrests of their violators where necessary, carrying out outreaches to schools and churches, organizing sensitization campaigns through the media, and creating awareness for the abused girl and boy child.
