Senator Opeyemi Bamidele has said that the Senate will open an investigation into the conviction of six Nigerians in the United Arab Emirates for wiring 782,000 Us dollars to Boko Haram.
Bamidele, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters while speaking to newsmen on Monday saidy that the committee was unaware of the recent arrest and imprisonment of six persons.
He said that notwithstanding, the committee was ready to find out true position of things.
Bamidele stated that the House Committee on Justice is also working with his committee on the matter.
It will be recalled that an Abu Dhabi Federal High Court of Appeal in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has convicted six Nigerians over allegedy funding of Boko Haram .
According to reports, the conviction was upheld by the appelate court after they lost an earlier appeal at a lower court.
In the report released on Monday, Surajo Abubakar Muhammad and Saleh Yusuf Adamu were sentenced to life imprisonment while the rest of the men , Ibrahim Ali Alhassan, AbdurRahman Ado Musa , Bashir Ali Yusuf and Muhammad Ibrahim Isa got ten year imprisonment each.
Also according to court documents that were made available, the convicts were allegedly involved in cash transfers totalling 782 thousand US Dollars to Boko Haram between 2015 and 2016.
