Six people arrested during an enforcement exercise by the Anambra State Physical Planning Board at Nkpor and Obosi Communities, have been arraigned, on a four-count charge, before a Magistrate Court in Awka, presided over by Magistrate Anyaegbunam Nonyelum.
The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Anambra State and Anambra State Physical Planning Board were the complainants.
The defendants were Charles Okolo, Desmond Chikwe, Chidozie Nwaorinta, Ekene Ogboke, Jude Okechukwu and Chilota Ude.
They, with some other persons still at large, carried out development, building operations, without approval.
They were also charged and arraigned for hindering, obstructing and impeding authorized Physical Planning Board officers in the performance of their lawful duty and power as contained in the same law.
Also, they were accused of blocking a passage way by developing and building a house without approval, contrary to the provisions of the same law, while disregarding the STOP WORK ORDER NOTICE and continued on the site without building permit, thereby committing an offence.
Recall that the Board recently carried out development control exercise at Emmanuel Street, Nkpor and Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area where some individuals blocked people’s access to their houses and the street and commenced construction of a new building on the portion.
The matter was adjourned to second March, 2021, while those arrested were remanded in custody at the Nigeria Correctional Service, Awka, until the next hearing date.
Speaking on the development, the Executive Chairman Anambra State Physical Planning Board, Mr. Chike Maduekwe, said that two weeks ago, they got information that some persons were building on the road, blocking access to the area after which they served them notice to stop work, but they refused to comply, leading to their arrests.
