Social critic and human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has expressed her views on the relocation of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and some Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) departments from Abuja to Lagos, stating that the North has plotted against itself.
Yesufu, known for her activism, addressed the Arewa Consultative Forum’s (ACF) protest against President Bola Tinubu’s approval of the relocation. She emphasized that the Northern region had, in fact, conspired against its own interests.
She made the remark on a post on her social media handle X.
Reports from FAAN confirmed the Federal Government’s decision to move its headquarters from Abuja to Lagos. FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, revealed that Nigeria’s Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, directed the relocation in an internal memo.
However, the ACF, through its national publicity secretary, Professor Muhammad Baba, condemned the decision, describing it as a deliberate plot against the Northern region. The Forum expressed concern, labeling the move as part of a disturbing pattern of antagonistic actions against the North and other parts of the country.
As debates surrounding the relocation intensify, it remains to be seen how this decision will impact the North and the nation at large.
