The South East governors, under the Umbrella of South East Governors’ Forum have stated that the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) are not representing the people of the south east on the call for secession.
In a meeting in Enugu on Saturday, the governors who met to figure out ways to curb the security crisis rocking the region condemned all secession agitations in the country.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Governor Dave Umahi, who is the chairman of the forum said that the governors condemned the violent activities of the secessionist groups in the South East and all over the country. He said they don’t support them , neither does the group speak for the people of South Eastern Nigeria.
He also said that the impression that the South East leaders are silent over some of the youths agitations for secession is false as south East governors, Ohaneze president , National Assembly members and notable leaders had come out previously to speak against such agitations.
Governor Umahi said that in order not to mismanage the unfortunate situation, South-East leaders have set up a committee to engage such youths to stop and allow elders to address the situation. He also said that such engagements will be done at the grassroots level.
