Spanish forward, Alvaro Morata has said he and his family have been attacked due to his Euro 2020 performances for the Spanish national team.
Morata has been the subject of a lot of criticisms after missing a number of goal scoring chances for Spain in the group stages of the tournament, including a penalty in Spain’s last Group E match against Slovakia in Seville; with him also admitting that he was unable to sleep for nine hours after a 1-1 draw with Poland in which he also missed chances after scoring Spain’s opening goal.
Speaking to Spanish radio station, “Cadena COPE” on Thursday night, he noted that while he understood the criticisms for not scoring goals, people had to know the limit, and he wished they would put themselves in the position of seeing what it was like to have threats and insults aimed at your family.
He observed that people had gone as far has wishing his children death and he had even had to put his phone away.
Speaking further , the 28-year-old added that few years ago, he would have been devastated, but now he felt really motivated and whoever thought otherwise did not know him.
Spain will play Croatia on Monday in the last 16 of the tournament and the striker will have another opportunity to prove himself
