Ex-students of Anambra State Polytechnic, ANSPOLY Mgbakwu on Tuesday 7th of December 2021, staged a protest at the Anambra State House of Assembly and Government House Awka over the bad Condition of the school and other related matters.
They protested in demand for the sack of the management of the institution, saying they have been in charge for years especially the rector of the institution since 2007. They also said that under her watch, the institution has graduated numbers of qualified students that have not been arranged for the National Youth Service.
According to a staff who pleaded anonymity, the desire of the staff of the institution is for the ANSPOLY governing council and Anambra State Government to look into the matters regarding the polytechnic and treat them fairly.
While expressing gratitude for how far the school has come, the staff noted that ANSPOLY is a state-owned institution, and there are other institutions that were founded by other states recently, but their certificates are recognized and their students mobilized for service unlike what is obtainable at the institution.
The protest which was led by past students of the institution bordered on the issuance of certificates, which have been rejected by other institutions including employers of labour. The ex-students also said that some of their students who graduated in the Polytechnic and had attempted to further their education, had their certificates rejected and described as invalid. They wondered how the school will be talking of graduating students when the students they graduated many years ago have not been mobilized for service.
