Anambra State Government has ordered herdsmen staying around university premises to leave the areas immediately or be arrested.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Mr Christopher Osita, gave the marching order during Cattle Menace Committee meeting held at Conference Hall of the Government House in Awka.
The SSA who is also the Secretary, Anambra State Cattle Menace Committee regretted that despite repeated warnings that they should guard their cows to avoid further damage of property and farm crops, seemed to have fallen on deaf ears.
He informed that this prompted the marching order from the Cattle Menace Committee members inaugurated by government and Chaired by the State Commissioner of Police, CP John Abang.
He directed the Seriki Fulani not to allow new herders into the state forth with and enjoined those already in the state to obey their host communities as according to him, nobody is above the law.
On his part, Chairman of the Committee, CP John Abang, represented by DCP Maiyaki Baba, promised the cattle menace committee that the police will be meeting with the herders to ensure they leave the campuses.
He enjoined the committees to report any of them proving stubborn to the police, reminding herders and farmers of the need to obey the law or face arrest.
He promised to set up commitees to assess the compensation for damages, and cautioned them against outrageous money presented for compensation.
Some members of the committee, Igwe PN Ezeamama of Enugwu Umuonyia, Igwe Pius Omachuonu, Igwe Ufuma Chika Ucheime igwe omasi and Ifite Ogwari, Igwe A.I Ofoebe, among others in their separate presentations, expressed worries over destruction of lives and property in their communities by herders, and made it clear that no compensation can equal human life, hence the need for the commitee to expedite action to stop further destruction in their communities especially this farming season.
On his part, the Seriki Fulani, Alhaji Gidado Sadikk, appealed to the committee to consider herdsmen who are law abiding to be operating in the state and assured he will communicate the marching order to those still within university premises to vacate.
Another member of the committee, CP Ikechukwu Aduba, called on the commitee to live up to expectations as Governor Willie Obiano has expressed worries over the excesses of herdsmen reported to him, directed that offenders should face appropriate sanctions.
