In Anambra State, suspected cultists have once again struck, claiming the life of a middle-aged man at the UNIZIK temporary site junction in Awka, the state capital.
According to reports from the Spokesman of the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the victim, identified as “Nwanayoeze” by residents, was fatally shot near the Tricycle Park at UNIZIK Junction.
Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, but eyewitnesses revealed that the assailants fled the scene immediately after the attack. According to report the victim’s associates swiftly removed his body to prevent it from being confiscated by security agencies.
Traders in the vicinity confirmed that the deceased was a prominent youth in the area, adding to the sense of fear and tension among residents.
This incident adds to the escalating violence attributed to ongoing cult clashes in Awka and its environs. The clashes, which intensified since Easter Sunday, are believed to be driven by disputes over revenue control among tricycle and shuttle bus operators.
