The Nigerian Export Promotion Council says it will collaborate with the government and people of Anambra State to develop the non-oil sector.
This will be done through capacity building of Anambra farmers on Acceptable practices across the cassava / Vegetables Value Chain to meet export standards.
The Director / CEO, Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Dr Ezra Yakusak, disclosed this in his keynote address at a workshop on Implementation of One State, One Product Value Chain Export Development Model through the State Committee on Export Promotion, which took place in Awka
He informed that their vision and mission Is to make the World a marketplace for Nigerian non-oil goods and services, as well as spearhead the diversification of the Nigerian economy and increase non-oil Exports for sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
Dr Yakusak, represented by Head, Export Promotion, Awka, Mrs Jane Ego Ohiri, wants the authority concerned too, as a matter of urgency, engage the value chain players from time to time to address their challenges ranging from low product quality, poor infrastructure and access to funds among others to grow the export of the sector for the benefit of the country.
He appreciated the government and Ndi Anambra for their efforts in uplifting the non-oil sector in the state.
In his welcome address, the State Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Mr Uchenna Okafor, represented by the Secretary, Anambra State Export Promotion Committee, Mrs Henrietta Basil Ideh, stated that the programme would increase the performance of the non-oil sector of Anambra state, Strengthen the implementation of One State, One Product (OSOP) which is a veritable programme for Export development in Nigeria and as well provide a veritable platform for Stakeholders’ interactions and knowledge sharing.
Some of the resource persons, Mr Chukwuemeka Okoli, Mr Goodluck Ogu, Dr Okey Peter Ejikeme, Mr Uzoma Aligwekwe and Mr Joseph Godfrey, educated participants on Acceptable global practices in the cultivation and Harvesting of vegetables and cassava for export, the best way to select seedlings and embrace Smark Agriculture, as well as How to stay afloat with ICT among others.
Responding, some of the participants, Former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Anambra State, Honourable Bridget Obi, National President. Federation of Snail Farmers, Comrade Ebeh Ikechukwu – Ogoenyi, and the Vice National President, All Farmers Association (AFAN), Abuja, Chief Daniel Okafor, thanked the organizers, noting the importance of such workshops in building the capacity of farmers to achieve bumper harvests for Export, food security, and Nutrition.
They called for the sustenance of the workshop.
