It was a show of talent and innovations as the Senate Committee on Science and Technology led by Senator Uche Ekwunife, organized a 2-day National Innovation Workshop with the Theme: “Promotion of Local Inventors of Science, Technology and Innovation”. The two- day event kicked off at International Convention Center Awka on Friday 25th and ended on Saturday 26th of Nov. 2022.
It was attended by many dignitaries including the Senator representing Anambra Central constituency, Senator Uche Ekwunife, The Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial zone, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah Anambra, The State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim, the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Uche Okafor, National president of the ASATU. Hon Titus Akudo, among others.
The keynote speech was delivered by Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim on the theme: “Imperatives for Adaptative National Framework for Science, Invention, Innovation and Industrialisation”.
In her welcome/keynote address, Senator Ekwunife said the purpose of the workshop was to create technological solutions to the myriad of socio-economic problems bedeviling Nigeria in order to transform the STI sector into viable and result oriented sector. She also said that the National workshop is expected to mobilise a broad spectrum of investors,innovators, academia, policymakers, entrepreneurs, technological companies, government agencies, and students for networking and collaboration. She appreciated all the dignitaries for attending the event and reassured the people of Anambra Central that her office will continue to put in measures that will promote human capital development
In his own speech, the vice president who was represented by the Minister of State for Science and Technology, Henry Ikoh, commended the senate committee led by Senator Uche Ekwunife, for it’s passion, emphasizing that the workshop provided a wonderful platform to Nigerians to rebrand the national innovation ecosystem, with emphasis on technology and entrepreneurship. He said that Nigeria will be great only when the citizens begin to shift their emphasis from consumption to production.
The Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo welcomed and thanked the Senate committee for organising the workshop in Anambra State and said that Anambra is one of the places to hold this kind of National workshop. He further said that the importance of the workshop is to lay more emphasis on the ability to patronize the local innovators and inventors.
Other highlights of the event were inspection of various innovations in Education, Agriculture, Industry, Technology, textile e.t.c.
Speaking to our correspondents who were present at the event, the Speaker Anambra State house of Assembly Hon. Uchenna Okafor, the Commissioner for Environment, Felix Odimegwu and others praised Iyom for the wonderful feat she has made in the area of science , technology and innovation.
