The scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) has worsened in Kaduna state, with pump prices reaching ₦1,100 per liter. Residents are urging the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to resolve the supply issues. Similar shortages have hit Lagos, Abuja, and other states, with ex-depot prices up to ₦700 per liter and pump prices up to ₦900 per liter.
NNPC’s chief corporate communications officer, Olufemi Soneye, attributed the disruptions to adverse weather conditions affecting berthing at jetties and transportation to filling stations. Compliance with safety regulations during thunderstorms has further complicated logistics, alongside flooding of truck routes, impacting the supply chain.
The Executive Vice President of Downstream, Dapo Segun, and Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Lokpobiri Heineken, assured the public that efforts are ongoing to restore normal fuel supply quickly.
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority’s Executive Director, Ogbugo Ukoha, emphasized measures to prevent hoarding and black-market activities, assuring that there are no plans to increase the fuel pump price.
