Tiger Foods Boss, Ebubeogu Stresses Need To Explore Manufacturing Opportunities That Abound In South East

The Managing Director of Tiger Foods Ltd., Mr Don Ebubeogu, has stressed the need for manufacturers to explore new avenues to identify hidden opportunities that can enhance the economy of the region and Nigeria at large.

He said this is necessary to encourage more local manufacturing ventures in the South East Zone.

Ebubeogu was speaking when he received members of Nigeria Union of Journalists Anambra State Council led by the chairman, Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, who were on a facility tour of the giant Spices manufacturing company at Onitsha as part of activities marking its 2023 NUJ Press Week.

He, however, observed that despite daunting challenges chocking manufacturing in Nigeria such as forex, power supply and the likes, South East is blessed with enormous gains for protection.

He maintained that watching over 80% fully loaded trucks coming into south East from Bridge Head daily, and going back empty should open people’s eyes to appreciate the need to close the gap in the manufacturing sector by establishing such industries to raise the economic potential of the South East and help step the ever rising unemployment.

“For us at Tiger Foods, we don’t dwell on those challenges, but we look at opportunities and enormous gains in the South East and that has helped us in advancement and business expansion”

Mr. Ebubogu said Tiger Foods Limited is motivated by the passion for healthy foods to produce a range of spices, seasonings and drinks such as ginger, garlic, thyme and currie powder, tomato mix, and mayonnaise.

He further explained that the company also produces other products in the line of beverages and herbs such as soft drinks, energy, alcoholic, and spirit including Tiger energy drink, nine herbal drinks, among others.

Speaking on staff welfare, Mr. Ebubeogu said the company, aside demonstrating humanity and safety consciousness at work, including routine health checks, also introduced pension scheme, where staff contribute 5% and management contribute 7%, to ensure that workers save for the future, have sense of commitment and run the company as family business.

On nature and quality of products, Mr Ebubeogu, a trained Food Technologist from the Institute of Food Technology, Chicago, United States of America, said the company blends contemporary and local materials to produce tastes that appeal to both local and international customers, adding that presently, the company is exporting finished products to Ghana and other African countries, and is making in-road to Europe.

He expressed his desire to partner the Anambra State Council of NUJ in sensitizing citizens on the need to make valuable contributions for the good of the society.

In his remarks, the Chairman of NUJ, Anambra state Council, Dr Odogwu, commended Tiger Foods management being able to weather the storm of instability in the economy and putting Anambra state in a position of envy on the production map of Nigeria.

He said that Tiger Foods Ltd stands tall in adding value to Anambra state economy and youth development.

Earlier in her speech, the Chairperson, NUJ Anambra state 2023 Press Week, Dr Njideka Ezeonyejiaku, explained that Press Week is a period set aside by journalists to celebrate themselves and interact with other segments of the society.

She said it is also a time to remind journalists of their roles and responsibilities as watchdogs of the society.

They were later conducted round the various sections and departments of the manufacturing industry.
