President Bola Tinubu on Friday declared that the nation’s economic hardship is now a thing of the past, assuring Nigerians that brighter days lie ahead.

The President made the remarks at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, during the historic coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adewolu Ladoja, who was formally installed as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

In a speech that blended congratulatory remarks for the new monarch with reassurances to the Nigerian populace, Tinubu said the economy had “turned a corner” and was on the path to growth and prosperity.

“Your suffering has been as painful to us as a painful surgery. But the economy has now returned to a moment of growth and prosperity. Thank you for your perseverance, and thank you for your endurance,” the President told the crowd.

Tinubu also used the moment to acknowledge the support he received from the people of Ibadan during his presidential campaign, recalling his famous slogan, “Emi lo’kan” (it’s my turn).

“I once came to Oke Mopo to seek your support to tell you ‘Emi lo’kan,’ and now we are there. Thank you very much,” he said, drawing cheers from the audience.

The coronation of Oba Ladoja, who previously served as Governor of Oyo State, was described as a landmark moment for Ibadan. He becomes the first former governor to ascend the revered throne, a development widely seen as bridging the gap between modern governance and traditional leadership.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State presented the staff of office to the new monarch, while President Tinubu joined other dignitaries in extending goodwill messages.

The event drew thousands of residents and guests to the ancient city, marking a historic occasion that combined cultural heritage with contemporary political relevance.
