US President Donald Trump has accused Iran of violating a ceasefire agreement after claiming the country launched multiple attack drones at ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement shared on his Truth Social, Trump alleged that Iran fired at least four one-way attack drones at vessels moving through the strategic waterway, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.
According to the US president, one of the drones struck the upper deck of a large cargo ship, causing damage. He, however, said the vessel was able to continue its journey.
Trump also claimed that three additional drones were intercepted before reaching their targets.
The president described the incident as a “foolish violation” of an existing ceasefire agreement, raising fresh concerns about security in the Gulf region.
“One of the Drones solidly hit the upper deck of a large and very expensive Cargo Carrying Ship. Damage was done, but the Ship was able to proceed on its way. We knocked down three other Drones,” Trump stated.
The allegation comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at sustaining a fragile ceasefire and reducing tensions in the Middle East.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global trade route, with a significant percentage of the world’s oil exports passing through the narrow waterway. Any disruption in the area often triggers concerns in global energy markets and among international shipping operators.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no immediate response from Iranian authorities regarding Trump’s claims.
