Two Die As Fully Loaded Truck Rams Into Stationary Vehicles, Pedestrians In Onitsha, Anambra

A Fatal Road traffic crash which occurred in front of Adam and Eve Motors Park, Upper Iweka, along Awka-Onitsha Expressway on Wednesday, 1st June, 2022, claimed at least two lives.

A release signed by the Acting State Sector Public Education Officer, RC Margaret Onabe, on behalf of the Sector Commander, said the crash involving 4 Persons, 3 male adults, and 1 female adult, occurred at about 3.35pm.

The release also informed that 4 vehicles were involved in incident.

The two persons who lost their lives were a male adult, who was a driver seated in his vehicle, waiting for his turn to load, and 1 female adult, a pedestrian hawking sachet water.

The crash was attributed to loss of control and break failure.

An eyewitness said the driver of the truck, fully loaded with tiles and other building materials failed brake, lost control and rammed into 3 stationary vehicles, and 2 pedestrian.

Others involved in crash are unidentified drivers of: a Mercedes Benz truck with registration number: XJ444NSH, a Mercedes Benz 190 car with registration number HAL585RF, Suzuki bus with registration number: RLU799XC and Mistibushi L300 bus with registration number:SSM892ZR.

The injured victim was taken to Toronto hospital for treatment, while the dead victims were deposited at same hospital’s morgue by FRSC rescue team from RS5.31A Upper Iweka Outpost Command.

The FRSC personnel also managed traffic to ease congestion.

Anambra State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi Comeserated with the deceased families, while wishing the injured persons quick recovery.

He urged drivers to ensure their vehicles meet 7pminimum Safety standard before hitting the road, urging them also to always obey Traffic rules and regulations.
