The traditional ruler of Umuawulu in Awka South Council Area, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu, has appealed to Anambra state government to assist the community in addressing some of its pressing needs.
Igwe Egwuonwu who made the appeal while speaking with the Press in his palace, listed road infrastructure as one of the biggest challenges facing the community.
According to the royal father, the Agbana Oremmiri– Saint Lawrence Anglican Church road, Mbaukwu, and the Umuawulu – Amaetiti road, need urgent rehabilitation to ameliorate the sufferings of commuters plying the routes.
Igwe Egwuonwu also listed erosion as another challenge facing the community, saying those challenges need urgent attention before they get out of hand.
On the security status of the Holy Cross High School, and the Union Secondary School, the royal father decried the porous security network in the two institutions due to an uncompleted fencing project.
He further lamented that land speculators and land grabbers are having a field day selling some portions of lands at Holy Cross High Secondary, and called on the state government to ensure completion of the fencing project to safeguard its facilities.
He made a similar call for the completion of the abandoned fencing project at the Union Secondary school in the community to provide a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.
Igwe Egwuonwu used the forum to commend High Chief Christopher Ndubuisi, who hails from the town for his role in building some roads, sinking many boreholes, and attracting many other projects to the community.
The traditional ruler also made reference to the contributions of Chief Emeka Eze also from Umuawulu who, he said, has been paying school fees for some Umuawulu indigenes at Holy Cross High School and Union Secondary School for three years now.
He acknowledged their uncommon efforts and other philanthropists in the town, who have contributed immensely to the growth of the community.
