Iran has ramped up its stockpile of uranium enriched to near weapons-grade levels. This is according to a confidential report from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
As of October 26, Iran possesses 182.3 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60%, marking a 17.6-kilogram increase since August.
This level of enrichment is just a technical step away from weapons-grade levels of 90%.
The IAEA’s report indicates that Iran’s total enriched uranium stockpile has reached 6,604.4 kilograms, an increase of 852.6 kilograms since the last report. These developments come amid heightened tensions in the region, particularly following missile exchanges between Israel and Iran.
As the IAEA Board of Governors meeting approaches, Western nations are considering a resolution to censure Iran for its lack of cooperation. Despite these pressures, Iran maintains that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.
