United States Sides With Russia in United Nations Votes On Ukraine War

In a major policy shift, the US has twice sided with Russia in United Nations votes marking the third anniversary of the Ukraine war.

At the UN General Assembly, the US opposed a European-backed resolution condemning Russia’s invasion, aligning with countries like North Korea and Belarus. It later drafted a Security Council resolution calling for an end to the war—without criticizing Moscow—which key allies, the UK and France, abstained from.

Critics, including US lawmakers, say this stance undermines America’s historic support for democracy. The move coincides with visits by European leaders seeking clarity on Washington’s shifting foreign policy.
