Unprofessional Conduct Among Officers Threatens Effective Policing In NIgeria

The Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, has stated that the Nigeria Police Force is not properly structured to tackle security challenges effectively.

Speaking at the 2024 Distinguished Personality Lecture Series at the University of Ilorin, Bamidele emphasized the need for fundamental changes in the police structure to achieve effective policing.

He highlighted issues such as unprofessional conduct among officers and the failure of leadership to enforce discipline.

Bamidele proposed the establishment of state police and an Independent Police Service Commission to address these challenges and enhance accountability.
