Report say 35 new cases of Coronavirus were recorded in Nigeria yesterday as follows:
19 in Lagos
9 in FCT
5 in Kano
2 in Oyo
This shows that as at 10:20 pm 16th April there are now total of 442 confirmed cases of #COVID19 .
According to the report, 152 have been discharged with 13 deaths
Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has predicted that all 36 states in Nigeria are likely to record coronavirus cases.
He noted that as at April 15, 2020, Nigeria has recorded 407 confirmed coronavirus cases, spread across 19 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
In a chat with journalists yesterday, Dr Ihekweazu noted that unaffected states might have to deal with an outbreak in the future, as it is a respiratory virus.
He also observed that many states in the country have crippled social and economic activities with lockdown measures that has left many with concerns about economic repercussions for Nigerians.
Dr Ihekweazu disclosed that efforts are ongoing to effectively deal with the coronavirus enough that economic activities can resume as soon as possible, which is why it is important for the country to continue to build its capacity to test, detect and isolate infected people so that the outbreak is contained.
