
World Teachers Day was celebrated globally on 5th October. It is an annual event where different activities are rolled out in honour of teachers.
In his message to mark this year’s World Teachers Day, President Muhammadu Buhari directed the immediate review of teachers’ wages nationwide for improved service delivery in the sector. He also announced the increase of teachers retirement age from 35 years to 40 years.
The Minister of Education , Mr Adamu Adamu , who represented the president at the Occasion in Lagos State, has been ordered to facilitate the implementation of the new teachers salary scheme , which is also a way to encourage teachers to deliver better services to their pupils and students.
In their Separate reactions, teachers and students have called for improved infrastructure in schools across the Nation.
A student of St Christopher College, Nando, Master Ikeadi Obinna , asked government to provide more learning materials which will create conducive learning environment for them.
Also, Mrs Emuma of St Vincent College, Awulu called for more recruitment of school counsellors and funding for the guidance and counselling unit in schools as this will help to shape the lives of students.
