
Nigerians in their various ways are speaking out against rape, as it has become a cause for concern with its rising cases in the country.
In that vein, the office of the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Broadcast Media organized a one-day Sensitization and road walk against rape.
The Walk, which was in collaboration with Association Against Child Abuse and Gender Based Violence, Anambra Broadcasting Service and other groups held on Saturday, 13th June, 2020.
The major aim of the Walk was to educate people on the dangers of rape and the effects it has on people, which could be psychological and emotional with traumatic effects on victims.
The roadshow which began at the Anambra Broadcasting Service headquarters, took the participants through Aroma Junction, Nkwo Amaenyi, Eke Awka Market and Amawbia.
The participants had inscriptions such as : “Stop Rape”, ‘Rape is a Serious crime’, ‘justice for us, act civil ‘, among others.
The organizer of the program and anchor of the Light TV Show and Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Broadcast Media, Mrs Ify Aronu- Okafor , said it is her desire that the message to end rape and other forms of sexual molestation will get to the rural areas.
The member representing Nnewi North Constituency, Mr. Okafor, who said he joined the Walk to show solidarity to women all over the world who are seeking an end to rape, was among dignitaries to grace the occasion.
