Member of the Delta State Community Policing Committee and President of the Urhobo Progress Union, (Youth Wing), Comrade Umukoro Efemena, says they are planning a 500-man march to protest police extortion and assault in Abraka.

Comrade Efemena disclosed that  mobilizing youths for what he described as the mother of all protests to correct the anomaly, was well overdue, alleging that the police officers attached to the Special Tactical Squad  have overstepped their bounds and turned themselves into what he called societal nuisance through their illegal operations.

He further revealed that as the president of the Urhobo Progress Union UPU Youthwing Worldwide and an active Human Right Activist and also Member Delta State Community Policing Committee, he recently received a distress call in an ungodly hour in the night from Urhobo Youths about the conduct of some police officers(STS).

He also compained that those set of police men are making life difficult for Students and young adults, alleging again that last week, a young man in Ughelli, Delta State, was extorted the sum of 1.6million naira after alleging that his car papers were incorrect.

Same day, he accused, same policemen led by inspector Lawrence and Matthew proceeded to Abraka and arrested a Delta State student and collected three hundred thousand naira from him.

The youth leader hinted that while they were still strategizing on how to stop the harrassement, on Monday, this week, same STS men mobilized themselves to Abraka to brutalize students, Extorted money from them and arrested over 20 students who failed to offer them money.

He alleged that the men were demanding 2 million naira from each of the students and that it was through his Intervention as Urhobo Youths President that they left 10 and took 10 youths away without informing them of their alleged crime .

The youth leader expressed sadness that the police officers leading the onslaught against their people are not police officers serving under the Delta State command but external police officers who come in commando-style to kidnap, intimidate, extort, harras, assault and molest members of the public in Abraka and Delta state at large. He explained that it is on this premise that he plans to lead a five hundred man peaceful walk and Press briefing to address the menace at hand and called on all relevant stakeholders to proffer possible solutions to the ugly situation.
