The Zamfara State Government has reaffirmed its stance against negotiating with bandits, insisting that security remains a top priority.
In a statement on Tuesday, Governor Dauda Lawal’s aide, Sulaiman Bala Idris, clarified that the governor was misquoted in a BBC Hausa interview. He emphasized that any negotiation would only occur if bandits surrender unconditionally.
The government says its anti-banditry strategy is yielding results, with many volatile areas returning to peace. Governor Lawal maintains that no responsible government negotiates from a position of weakness.
