Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmood Yakubu , has said that even though the electoral body subscribes to Nigerians in diaspora voting, the Nigerian law makes it impossible for such category of people to vote as the law only allows for people resident in Nigeria to register and vote.

He also stated that he is convinced that it will be resolved in due time .
Overtime, the issue of diaspora voting was a conversation that was deliberated on lats year at the constitution review hearings, although the National Assembly struck out the proposal for diaspora voting in March, 2022
Yakubu reiterated that INEC is ready for diaspora voting but the enabling law will have to be provided to cover it.
