Deputy Director, Medical Services of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Dr Emma Umenweke, has expressed concern over the non-implementation of the agreement between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities causing the union members to embark on industrial action.

Dr Umenweke who spoke on the 2009 breached agreement, expects the federal government to honour the agreement to end the present imbroglio in the education sector.

The medical expert noted that ASSU’s one-month warning strike should have been reduced to about a week or two to give room for negotiations with the federal government.

He regretted that the education sector has been experiencing some cracks with the ongoing strike adding to its woes.

On his part, a former Awka Zonal Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr Johnson Ezedinachi, blamed the federal government for not keeping faith in the agreement with ASSU.

On World Cancer Day which was recently observed by the World Health Organization, the medical practitioner called for early screening for Men and women for the possible detection and early treatment.
