Sisterhood was redefined when the Anambra/Imo(AIM) members of old girls Association of Holy Rosary College, Uwani Enugu , HOGA, visited the home of the Association of People Living With Sickle Cell Disorder to share the Christmas cheer with them.
Representing the the AIM chapter, Mrs Ogochukwu Umeh said that the chapter deemed it fit to extend their love and kindness to the Home, not merely because the National Coordinator of the Association and the Director of the Home, Mrs Aisha Edward Maduagwu belongs to the Association, but largely because she was reaching out to the society and lending her voice to advocate for the eradication of sickle cell disease , through intervention, education, welfare and eventually getting a home where orphaned children and others suffering from the disease are taken care of.
In a goodwill message from the AIM president Mrs Nneka Onwudiwe, delivered through Mrs Ogo, she said that the Holy Rosary Old Girls Association would always align with the Association of People Living With Sickle Cell to support and encourage Mrs Aisha to keep up the good fight.
In an emotion- laden voice, Mrs Aisha said she was able to get the best of her secondary school education as a boarder in Holy Rosary College, Enugu because she had an enabling environment to grow and survive among the students and staff. She noted that even though they have gone their seperate ways as adults, they still keep in touch, which led to the visit.
She appreciated the visit and promised to not let them down in the discharge of her duties.
She also used the opportunity to emphasize the importance of people knowing their genotype status so that they don’t bring children into the world to suffer, as managing . She maintained that sickle cell disease can only stop when people become serious with their genotype status.
Commenting on the importance of the visit, Nkem Uchefuna commended the energy Mrs Aisha puts into her work and prayed God for more strength.
Highlights of the event were the presentation of money to the Home and group photographs.
