The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have jointly decided to initiate a nationwide strike starting from October 3, 2023. This decision comes in response to what the Labor Unions perceive as the government’s failure to effectively implement policies to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians, particularly following the removal of the subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The NLC President, Joe Ajaero, conveyed this resolution during a virtual National Executive Council meeting, where it was agreed that both labor centers would collaborate to communicate their stance to the government.

Initially, there were objections within the NLC, but it appears that the lack of government responsiveness has led to a unified decision to proceed with the strike.
