Just in: Food prices to crash in 180 days – Agric Minister

In response to nationwide protests against hunger, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Sen Abubakar Kyari announced measures to reduce food prices within 180 days.

Kyari shared on his X account that the government will introduce a 150-day duty-free import window for essential food commodities such as maize, rice, wheat, and cowpeas, suspending duties, tariffs, and taxes for these items.

Kyari emphasized the importance of agricultural mechanization, irrigation facility maintenance, and collaboration with sub-national entities to increase cultivated land.

Kyari assured that implementation frameworks would be finalized within 14 days, with collaboration from various agencies and stakeholders. He reiterated President Tinubu’s commitment to achieving food security and ensuring no Nigerian goes to bed hungry.
