The Israeli military has instructed all residents of Gaza City to evacuate south to the central Gaza Strip, citing intensified operations in the north. Leaflets have been dropped, indicating safe routes to shelters in Deir al-Balah and al-Zawaida. The UN has expressed deep concern over these evacuation orders.
Israeli forces have re-entered several areas of Gaza City over the past two weeks, targeting Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). Meanwhile, negotiations for a potential ceasefire and hostage release between Israel and Hamas are set to resume in Qatar, involving intelligence chiefs from Egypt, the US, and Israel.
Despite the evacuation orders, many residents are unwilling to leave. One resident, Ibrahim al-Barbari, told the BBC he would not evacuate, believing Israeli missiles do not differentiate between north and south.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported conducting a counterterrorism operation overnight against fighters inside a UN agency headquarters in Gaza City and dismantling an underground tunnel in the Shejaiya district. Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant claimed that 60% of Hamas fighters had been killed or wounded since the offensive began.
The UN Human Rights Office criticized the evacuation orders, noting the lack of infrastructure and humanitarian assistance in the designated areas.
